“What’s Next?” is a non-juried group show that presents all media artwork by 90 local contemporary artists. Contemporary art is the art of today, a mirror of present-day culture, society, its issues and solutions.
Characters on the television series “The West Wing” would say, “What's Next?” at the end of each episode to indicate that there was a long list of issues to resolve at any given moment. That's never been more true than in today’s America. Contemporary artists consciously and sometimes subconsciously address current events in their work, and thereby give us an opportunity to reflect on the world around us.
Openness to have a dialogue is an important tool for understanding works of art. The same can be said about humankind. Instead of questioning whether you like or dislike a specific piece of art, we suggest having an open dialogue, a discussion to try to understand what motivated each artist to create his or her work.
For this show each Touchstone Gallery artist member has invited an artist friend to exhibit along with the gallery’s artists. The exhibition will present a wide variety of artwork created in all media that responds to the question “What’s Next?”
