Can We Adjust?

we may be troubled

by the weight of 

choice, ancestral territory, or wealth

while we watch wretched individuals

those who crisscross

through rubble,

decomposing detritus,

and corrosion

trying to find 

what we’ve already lost 

or just tossed.

can we adjust to the

pace of interior life

and make the 

compulsory connections

between us and them?

can we heal our inequitable world?
