arch over the garden 

a microclimate of

sun, shade, pathways

and a little stream

where ogre frogs float

tongue at the ready

to snatch and lunch 

on bug pollinators, 

songbirds compete, 

and the praying mantis 

glides slowly away 

eyes discerning 

its own buggy meal
