“My long-time teacher and art mentor Deborah Ellis used to have a day that her students either loved or hated: seafood day. She would bring in actual seafood, such as crabs or shrimp, and maybe some oyster shells, for the class to play with. Can you guess which side I was on? I created these minimalist paintings by using real shrimp to stamp the basic images on the paper and then added a few painted details. As shrimp live and travel in large colonies, I am sure there are gossips among them.”
