This painting was done from memories of some of my happiest times painting, when I spent a week in Claude Monet's gardens in Giverny, France. We painters were allowed in from 7 to 9 am (before the tourists arrived) and from 6 to 8 pm (after the gardens closed). It was a magical time; the pieces I made then and the images I saw there continue to inspire and inform my work to this day.
