Collagist Katy Jean May creates large, abstract, close-up portraits utilizing magazine paper and found objects. The color palettes, textures and tones work together to express the inner life and outer shell of the figure. The portrait can highlight the figure’s mental conflict or serenity, their sharp focus or distraction. Subtle imagery embedded in or swirling around the faces can further emphasize the figure’s memories, feelings, history or environment.
50 for 50 is an artist opportunity that invites 50 community artists to showcase their work at Touchstone throughout 2026, the year of Touchstone’s 50th anniversary.
