ArtWatch, with support from Touchstone Foundation for the Arts, presents Protest!. Participating artists answer the dire issues facing our democracy with specific art pieces opposing the many subjects of concern in 2022. This exhibit celebrates vigorous political engagement with the American right to protest injustice.

A fluid collective of DC area artists, ArtWatch is dedicated to using the power of visual communication to support true democratic values including inclusion, freedom of thought and personal autonomy, equality under law, and stewardship of the environment. Created in response to the 2016 election and the subsequent threat to democracy, ArtWatch promotes a vision of unity in shared principles rather than division by race, religion, gender, sexual preference, class, or any other artificial means of defining “us against them.”

Protest! includes work by Evie Altman, Michele Banks, Liliane Blom, Shante Bullock, Anne Cherubim, Erin Devine, Barbara Frank, Jackie Hoysted,Sally Kauffman, June Linowitz, Shelley Lowenstein, Kathryn McDonnell, Gail Rebhan, Renee Sandell, Veronica Szalus, and Ellyn Weiss.
