As part of our 50 for 50 series, Touchstone is featuring a weeklong spotlight exhibition by Kwaku Ofori-Yirenkyi, also known as Absku. And get a first look at all of the late fall Touchstone exhibitions!
Drawing from the experience of a Ghanaian raised in America, Absku explores migration, memory, identity, and belonging through the lens of the third-culture experience. Combining portraiture, abstraction, African textiles, Adinkra symbolism, and tactile mixed-media surfaces, their work examines how culture transforms across borders and generations. Through layered textures, fragmented figures, and sculptural elements, the artist presents identity as fluid, continually negotiated, and ever evolving.
