Brittany Mona' -- a multidisciplinary artist based in Maryland, specializing in abstract portraits that explores and celebrates the complexity of the Black diaspora. Their inspiration pours from Black culture, ancestral downloads, and the Black community. Patterns, lines, shapes, and symbols are reflected throughout their pieces to stay rooted and pay homage to her ancestors. These elements are used as communication tools in the Black community from hairstyles to body art, fashion, fabrics, garments, and tiles. Mona’ works with various mediums including spray paints, acrylics, pastels, and clay. Combining elements of new-expressionism, graffiti, and African art, they create mixed-media abstract figurative images, sculptures, and collages of the Black diaspora to celebrate, uplift, and communicate complex emotions of Blackness. Their work navigates and encourages Black liberation through visual depictions and influences of Black culture, community, sustainability, joy, and expression. Serving as a reminder of the many ways that these concepts intersect, Mona’ creates art that is bold in color and complex in shape and style to stand out as an extension of the community members it reflects. Their work encourages reflections and inspires change. Mona’ additionally participated in a number of group exhibitions, such as The Queer Art Salon, Dupont Underground’s Second Annual Women’s Art Show, as well as La Cosecha’s collection in correlation with Women’s History Month, and SH Gallery Volume 4 at Shanklin Hall in a collection celebrating Black culture and the Black artist, all in 2024.
