"In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they’re still beautiful."
--Alice Walker
Some artists consider a painting of a tree to be successful if it captures the image of one particular tree. That is not my goal. I want to capture the treeness of it, the essence of all trees. Abstraction, which I define as reducing things to their most basic elements, helps me do this. The challenge I set for myself in this painting was to reduce a forest to its basic geometric formation. Do you think I succeeded?
