CALL FOR LOCAL ARTISTS
Exhibition dates: April 5 - 28, 2019 or October 4 - 27, 2019
Juror: Molly Ruppert, an independent curator, founded and managed Warehouse Theater and Arts Complex for about two decades.
The Spotlight Art Series@Touchstone is an opportunity to have a solo exhibition at the Touchstone Gallery. Successful applicants will enjoy a front window, 90 sq. ft. wall exhibition space, in our street level gallery located downtown Washington DC.
If you don’t get selected for a solo exhibition, you still get to exhibit one small artwork in a 2019, as part of Local Guest Artists Group show at a date to be specified.

Email your five images to email@example.com, one JPG per artwork. Image size: jpg, 300 dpi image resolution, 2000 pixels (6 inches) maximum in either direction. Name each image file named with last name and piece number: (e.g., Doe1.jpg, Doe2.jpg) These images are of artwork representative of what you would include in your solo exhibit; they do not have to be the exact pieces you would use in the exhibit.
- Open to all artists 18-years-old and older.
- All original visual media including 3D and installations, that is the artist’s own concept, design, and work.
- Artwork must fit through the doorway: 31 in. width x 93 in. tall. Weight: 30 lbs. maximum for wall-hanging and 50 lbs. maximum for free-standing work.
- Artwork must be hand delivered and retrieved in person at specified dates to/from the Touchstone Gallery.
- All artwork must be for sale.
A $45 non-refundable entry fee to be paid online.
Touchstone Gallery is responsible for all sales and will retain a 40% commission.
All artwork will be considered for sale at the price set forth by the artist in a signed contract following selection. Touchstone Gallery reserves the right to negotiate up to a 10% discount to secure a sale. Our general practice to is not release artwork that has sold to the buyer until the end of the exhibition, unless there are special circumstances that require the buyer take the artwork at the time of the sale.
EXHIBITION SOLO SPACE
90 sq. ft. wall space, see floor plan below, please feel free to visit the gallery to see the space in person. The area of the gallery designated for the Spotlight Series is in a window space at street level, as shown below. All work must fit within the designated dimensions.
All submissions must be original work, entirely the work of the entrant, and free from any copyright infringement. No copies or likenesses of other artists’ work are permitted. Compositions based upon photographs must use photos taken by the artist or the sole property of the artist.
USE OF IMAGES
Images of accepted works may be used at the sole discretion of Touchstone Gallery for promotional purposes including, but not limited to, press releases, invitation, website, and social media. In submitting work for consideration, all entrants give permission to Touchstone Gallery to use images of selected works for publicity, education, and reproduction if an exhibition catalog is produced. Images will include attribution whenever possible.
All reasonable care will be taken to assure the protection of the art work. However, Touchstone will not be liable for any damage to, or loss of, artwork during delivery, exhibition, storage, or removal. The artist is responsible for insuring their own artwork, if desired. Touchstone Gallery reserves the right to refuse any work that does not conform with the requirements outlined in the prospectus.
NO EARLY REMOVAL OF ARTWORK
Artwork must remain on display in the Gallery for the duration of the Exhibition. Removal of artwork prior to the closing will result in penalties assessed by the Board of Directors of Touchstone Gallery.
All decisions made by the juror are final and indisputable and all entrance fees are non-refundable.
Notification of the selected artists will be made by February 5, 2019.
